A more complete diagnosis is carried out at service stations. In assessing the performance of the resonator its temperature and throughput capacity are measured.
Lifetime of a middle silencer is designed for 20 000 kilometers. In adverse conditions of use this figure will decrease by half. Exceeding the lifespan is not recommended because excessive wear of the part leads to increased vibrations and exhaust gas temperature, which quickly will damage the catalyst.
Replacing the middle silencer
Resonator repair is irrelevant. The part is all-metal, so even tampering with the body in order to repair it will only impair its properties.
For replacing the resonator it is disconnected from the pipe. Due to the influence of high temperatures the item can stick to the mountings. In this case, you must use a special tool to cut it with the fixings. Such repair works must be conducted exclusively at service stations.
