Types
According to the construction material of the center electrode:
- Copper-nickel. The center electrode has the copper core placed in corrosion- and wear-resistant nickel case. The main advantages of such spark plugs are their low price and optimal operation characteristics.
- Yttric. Yttrium-enhanced center electrode provides excellent performance and extended service life. They are widely used in auto racing. They are presented by Bosch Super Plus series.
- Silver. They are presented by the Silver and Super 4 series. The center electrode of hard silver makes these spark plugs reliable and highly resistant to heat and aggressive chemicals. Super 4 have 4 ground electrodes, which increases their service life, and the center silver-coated electrode, which promotes better heat transfer.
- Platinum and iridic. In Platinum Plus electrodes are made of pure platinum, in Double Platinum the platinum electrode tip is welded to base, in Platinum Iridium the electrodes are made of the alloy of these metals. Such spark plugs are durable, corrosion- and heat-resistant and have perfect performance throughout their whole lifespan.
