Mazda MX-5 cars are assembled in Japan since 1989 till present. In 1990 the car got “Automobile of the Year” title from the “Automobile” magazine. History of Mazda MX-5 cars

This model was launched in 1989. It has four generations and three restyled versions. Cars of the first generation, NA, were light and reliable roadsters with soft top which are considered to be successors of sport cars of 50’s–60’s of the XX century. The main feature of car exterior were retractable headlights.

In order to make the car maximally affordable the manufacturer offered it in totally simple configuration. But in course of time the power steering, air-conditioner and stereo system were included to the standard equipment list. In 1993 Limited Edition cars with leather interior trimming and electric side mirrors were presented.

In 1998 the second generation, NB, was released. Exterior of Mazda MX-5 roadster became calmer, retractable headlights gave place to traditional ones. Moreover, aerodynamic drag coefficient of the new car was improved. Anti-lock braking system was available as an additional option. After 2001 facelift the seats got higher headrests and front fog lights were included into standard equipment list. The richest trim level offered leather trimming of interior elements.

NC generation was produced since 2005. Car’s standard equipment included dynamic stability control (DSC) and anti-skid regulation. The manufacturer presented the folding hardtop roadster in 2006. Two years later ellipsoid headlights were replaced with almond-shaped ones, and the oval radiator grille became slightly pentagonal.

Features of Mazda MX-5 ND

The fourth generation, ND, was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 2014. Exterior of new MX-5 roadster was quite expressive and futuristic but retaining some retro romance.

Body appearance changed significantly due to narrow headlights and ribs on the bonnet. The radiator grille, as before, is rather large but the manufacturer replaced cells with horizontal bars. LED daytime running lights are situated on the front bumper. Ellipsoid rear lights on the new car are replaced with optical elements of complex shape. Teardrop-shaped fog lights are located in niches of the rear bumper. Folding hardtop targa was added to available body styles range.

Due to Skyactiv technologies the cars demonstrate high level of dynamics and handling. Improved steering system and suspension provide the driver with unforgettable pleasure from driving. Moreover, the car is characterized by low fuel consumption.
