The manufacturer has presented three generations and three restyled versions of the model. The second generation of 3, BL, was unveiled in 2009. These cars were equipped with ABS and brake force distribution, emergency brake assist system. The model got maximum five stars having passed Euro NCAP crash-test. Rain sensors and bi-xenon headlights were included into standard equipment in extended trim levels.

Production of the BM generation started in 2013 and was marked by appearance of Mazda Connect system. It provided quick access to all necessary information during driving, including navigation data. Moreover, one could always stay online and safely drive the car at the same time. The richest trim level for the model included the i-ELoop brake energy regeneration system which helped to consume fuel rationally. By January, 2014, more than four million copies of Mazda 3 sedan and hatchback were sold, which made this model the best-selling car in company’s history.

In 2016 restyling of the third generation was presented to public. As before the car is available in versions of sedan and 5-door hatchback. Turn indicator repeaters appeared in side mirror housings, and daytime running lights (LED ones in extended configurations) have a new minimalistic style.

The model is equipped with the I-stop intelligent engine start-and-stop system, allowing to save fuel, as standard. Due to G-Vectoring Control system, which corrects engine output according to intensity and angle of steering wheel rotation, the model features fine handling. Moreover, the car can be equipped with blind zones monitoring system, lane keeping assist, hill start assist and driver fatigue recognition system.
