FORD FOCUS reviews and experiences
Ford Focus cars are produced since 1998 till present. Cars are assembled in Spain, Italy, Germany, the USA and Russia. According to statistics, the model was the top-selling car in 2000, 2001, 2012-2014. It is worth noting, that the millionth copy of the car was sold in 2014.
History of Ford Focus cars
The company has released three generations and three facelifts of these cars. The first generation of the model was presented in four versions: DBW 3-door and 5-door hatchbacks, DNW station wagon and DFW sedan. The cars had a multi-link suspension, which wasn’t used in compact cars before.
Focus cars of the second generation have increased in dimensions significantly. So, the 5-door hatchback became 190 mm longer, 141 mm wider and 67 mm higher in comparison to restyled car of the previous generation. Moreover, the manufacturer has altered the fog lights and radiator grille shape, which affected the car’s appearance positively. Cabrio version of the car appeared on the market. It is also worth mentioning that cars of the second generation got the best marks in Euro NCAP crash-tests.
The Ford Kinetic Design concept created by Martin Smith, Ford’s Executive Design Director, was used for production of the restyled car in 2008. The key point of the new style was an appearance of constant motion that was created by some motionless exterior elements. So, the model got a body with more dynamic lines, almond-shaped headlights, bigger bumper grille and mirrors with built-in turn indicators.
The third generation (DYB) was presented by the manufacturer at North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 2010. It is remarkable that Ford Focus sedan and 5-door hatchback were produced with the same design for Europe and America for the first time in the model history.
Features of restyled Ford Focus cars of the third generation
Premiere of the third generation facelift took place at Geneva Motor Show in 2014. The car got narrow headlights and a trapezoidal radiator grille, which added even more dynamics. Ford Focus station wagon, sedan and 5-door hatchback are available on the market.
Most of the dashboard buttons were replaced with 8’’ touch display – an element of SYNC 3 voice-controlled multimedia system.
The restyled car has ABS, ESP, traction control system, front and rear airbags in its basic configuration. For an additional fee the car can be equipped with Active City Stop technology, which helps to avoid collision at low-speed driving.
The line of available engines was extended with five new power units. EcoBoost with 150 or 180 hp is amongst them – a turbocharged gasoline engine with direct injection which is notable for low fuel consumption.
