Daihatsu Taft all-wheel drive cars were produced from 1974 till 1984 in Japan. In some countries the model was sold under the names Wildcat and 1600. Also the car was available as Toyota Blizzard. The model was the first company’s car, which was sold in Germany.
History of Daihatsu Taft cars
The first model generation, F10, was presented in body version of an off-roader. The cars had 2 or 4 seats and were offered with a soft or rigid roof. They were equipped with petrol engines of 1.0 liters volume and 45 hp output and 4-speed gearbox. In 1978 the manufacturer offered Daihatsu Taft F20 off-roaders with 1.6L petrol engine of 66 hp output and 2.5L diesel engine of 61 hp output.
In 1979 the cars were renewed and were branded as F25 and F55. Deluxe package with 5-speed gearbox appeared in 1983. The F50/F55 cars were replaced with the F60/F65 ones, equipped with diesel 2.8L engines.
Starting from 1985, the model was produced in Indonesia as the F70. They installed diesel engines with 72 hp output on these cars. Moreover, since 1986 the manufacturer released Hiline F69 special package with rear-wheel drive. The F73 off-roaders with the word “Independence” in the name were produced in Indonesia from 1996 till 2007. They had independent front suspension.
Features of Daihatsu Taft F25/F65
The cars were characterized by the angular body and had large round headlights, mounted close to each other on the sides of the small radiator grille. Wide front wheel arches were open from the bumper side. Leaf springs were used on the front and rear axles of Taft.
Luxurious package of Taft off-roader was available in Europe. This car was designed by the famous Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti.
