Mercedes-Benz C-Class is cars, which came to replace 190 sedan in 1993. The cars are produced in Germany, Mexico, South Africa, Egypt, Vietnam, Thailand, Brazil, India, China, the USA, Indonesia, Malaysia. In 2007 the model became “Car of the Year” according to version of popular Australian “Wheels” magazine and won “Executive Car of the Year” title from “Top Gear” magazine. The car was twice awarded “Japan's Import Car of the Year”: in 2007 and 2011.
History of Mercedes-Benz C-Class cars
The car is presented by four generations and three restyled versions. The first generation was produced in versions of sedan (W202) and station wagon (S202). At that time, it was the only model of the manufacturer, for which a wide range of engines was offered. It included powerful 6-cylinder petrol engines, M104.
In the second generation, sport coupe CL203 was produced apart from W203 sedan and S203 station wagon. Its rear part was equipped with a plastic spoiler. Sunroof was optionally available for these cars. Later, the sport coupe was sold as a separate model – CLC-Class. The second generation was popular – more than 2 million copies were sold.
Premiere of the third generation took place at the Geneva Motor Show in 2007. The model was presented in versions of sedan (W204), station wagon (S204) and coupe (C204). The car dimensions significantly increased. Particularly, C-Class sedan became bigger than its predecessor in length by 55 mm, in width by 42 and, and in height – by 21 mm. The list of available options for this generation cars was significantly expanded. In particular, the manufacturer equipped the cars with systems of voice control (Linguatronic), driver’s fatigue control (Attention Assist), car lane holding (Active Lane Keeping Assist). Intelligent Light system was offered for efficient operation of the head optics.
Features of fourth generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class cars
Debut of the fourth-generation model in versions of sedan (W205) and station wagon (S205) took place at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 2014. A year later the manufacturer presented C205 coupe at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main and premiere of Mercedes-Benz C-Class A205 cabriolet took place on Geneva Motor Show in 2016.
The car is created on a new MRA platform (Modular Rear Architecture). The manufacturer used more aluminum, thus reducing car weight by 100 kg. During this the car became bigger. The sedan became longer by 95 mm, and now was 4686 mm, and width was increased by 40 and was 1810 mm. Height of the car was reduced by 5 mm and was 1442 mm. This added more dynamics to car exterior. This also appears in prolonged headlights with built-in LEDs, horizontal bulge on the doors and large radiator grille with brand logo in the center.
As for technical equipment, such options as passengers protection system in case of collision (Pre-Safe Plus), intelligent parktronic with 360° view, navigation system (Map Pilot) and other were available for C-Class cars. Also the car can be equipped with projection display, thanks to which, navigation data, information about driving speed, etc can be displayed on the windshield.
