DAIHATSU CHARADE reviews and experiences
Daihatsu Charade passenger cars were produced from 1977 till 2013. At different times they were assembled in Japan, Greece, Indonesia, New Zealand, South Africa, Taiwan, China. Also the car was manufactured under Valera and Cuore names; moreover, Toyota Yaris was amongst its twins. In 1977 the model was named the “Car of the Year” in Japan according to “Motor Fan” magazine.
History of Daihatsu Charade
Totally, eight generations and three restyled versions of the model were presented. It was named after one of Grand Prix France race tracks ‒ Circuit de Charade. The first generation cars, G10, were produced in body versions of three- and five-door hatchbacks. The distinctive features of 3-door Charade were small round windows located on the rear pillars.
Production of the second generation, G11, started in 1983. Turbocharged engines appeared in 1984 in the car equipment. In 1985 the model underwent restyling. That same year, at Tokyo Motor Show, the company presented sport package 926R, designated for World Rally Championship. The car was equipped with the turbocharged engine of 120 hp output, developed in collaboration with DeTomaso.
In 1987 the manufacturer presented the third cars generation, G100. The body versions line was added by Daihatsu Charade saloon. Sport cars GTTi “Sport” with 101 hp output engine were released within the generation. These cars were considered the fastest amongst those equipped with 1.0L engines.
Production of the fourth generation, G200, continued from 1993 till 2000. The cars were equipped with petrol engines only and were provided with front- or all-wheel drive. In 1996 the car was renewed. The car headlights as well as radiator and bumper grilles became wider and got smoother lines. From 1995 till 1998 the manufacturer also produced L500 generation. And the sixth and seventh generations of the model (the L251 and the L276 correspondingly) were available on the British and South-African markets from 2003 till 2011.
Features of Daihatsu Charade XP9 cars
Debut of the eighth model generation, XP9, took place in 2011. The manufacturer offered 5-door Charade hatchback. The car had the streamlined body, large almond-shaped halogen headlights, mesh radiator grille and neat bumper grille with black horizontal bars. A shallow decorative relief elements were situated on the body side parts. In extended package the cars were equipped with round fog lights, mounted in diamond-shaped frames on the both sides of the bumper grille.
The car side mirrors were provided with electronic adjustment function. Also standard package included central lock, power steering, air-conditioner, audio-system. The automatic climate-control was offered in extended package.
The hatchback was notable for high level of safety. Standard equipment of basic package included front and side airbags for the front seats row. Also there were knee airbag and three-point automatic seatbelts. The cars were basically equipped with the anti-lock brake system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution, stability control system (VSC) and anti-skid system (TRC).
