The History of the BMW 3 series

The company has produced six generations and four facelifted versions of these cars. The first generation, the E21, was introduced to the public at the Munich Olympic Stadium in 1975. This model was equipped with the Bosch K-Jetronic GDI engines.

In 1998 the manufacturer introduced the BMW 3 series saloon (E46). The engines of these cars received the Valvetronic variable valve lift system developed by the company. The E90 sedan was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005. That was the first car of the 3 series fitted with the iDrive system which controls navigation, air-conditioning and sound systems. The F30, the sedan of the sixth generation was unveiled at the manufacturer’s plant in Munich in 2011.

The Features of the BMW 3 series (F30/F34)

The updated sedan (F30) and five-door fastback (F34) of the sixth generation have been produced since 2015 till the present day. The exterior design of the cars was elaborated by Christopher Weil under the supervision of the design chief of the company Adrian Van Hooydonk. Thanks to the long bonnet, LED lights and classic radiator grille with chrome trim, the cars look elegant and dynamic. The cabin became even more ergonomic and spacious and allows to store many things. Moreover, there is a hands-free tailgate opening function.

3 series liftback and saloon of the sixth generation are equipped with modern climate control units, improved navigation systems and updated safety systems. The cars are fitted with the Driving Assistant system which warns the driver about the pedestrians coming, lane departure and other hazards and active cruise control with the Stop&Go function. The instrument panel houses a full-colour head-up display which shows the information a driver needs. As an option, the car might be fitted with an Intelligent Parking Assist System. There are three specifications available: Modern Line, Sport Line, Luxury Line.
