A flaring tool allows to perform radial deformation of the pipe ends in order to increase durability of the connection. The procedure is performed by screwing-in a conical rod into the treated element. With the help of such accessories, you can, for example, restore hermeticity of car brake system elements. Such procedure is less expensive, than purchasing of new components.
Types of flaring tools
The products, presented in catalogues of manufacturers are divided into three main groups:
- Stamps. They are used in combination with clamping devices in order to add the needed shape to component ends.
- Tools with a strip. Its construction presupposes a few holes of various diameter for part fastening.
- Tools with a handle. A compact working element is mounted on its end. The component is inserted into it from one side and securely fastened with the help of a forcing screw. On the other side, a rod is situated, at the influence on which the part is pressed. They are suitable for use without preliminary pipe demounting.
Apart from the standard ones, there are eccentric flaring tools and items with the ratchet mechanism. The first ones are equipped with self-centering matrix, which allows to perform high-precise operations. The second ones speed up the job significantly, as they require less effort when screwing in the functional rod.
Also manufacturers offer kits. They include accessories for cutting, apart from the tools for parts deformation. As a rule, the kits are sold in cases.
Making order online, pay attention to the fact, that the products differ in accordance with:
- Metric system. They may be designed for components, diameter of which is noted in millimeters or inches.
- Material of treated parts. Thus, some accessories can be used with steel, copper or aluminium pipes; others – with polymer-coated elements.
Tips on flaring tools use
- Follow recommendations of the manufacturer; use the tool with the parts compatible with all the parameters.
- Lubricate the treated part with a small amount of motor oil in advance.
- Do not apply excessive force onto the pipe. This will allow to avoid defects.
