5-door Ford Fusion hatchback was produced since 2002 till 2012. Car assembling was organized in Cologne (Germany) and Chennai (India). The manufacturer emphasised that this car combined features of hatchback, crossover and minivan. Sedan under the same name is still produced for the North American market.
History of Ford Fusion cars
The company produced one generation and one restyled version of these cars. 5-door Fusion hatchback, that debuted at Geneva Motor Show in 2002, differed significantly from other company models, exterior of which was developed according to “Kinetic Design” ideology at that time.
Distinctive features of the car were big, almost square headlights, mesh radiator grille with large cells and massive protruding bumper. Also the car had spacious cabin and capacious luggage compartment (more than 337 liters). In 2005 the car underwent restyling.
Features of restyled first generation Ford Fusion
Renewed Fusion was produced since 2005 to 2012, as before – only in a 5-door hatchback version. The front bumper was enlarged, side mirror housings were now painted in the car body colour, and side mouldings became wider. Apart from this, the company expanded body colour selection. Bright colours became available: violet, red and others.
Significant changes took place in the car interior as well. More colours for seat covers became available, the dashboard was covered with a new material, that differed from other upholstery elements in colour. Design of the instrument panel was modified; particularly, A/C knobs were replaced by buttons. Rear seats of the car were foldable, thus increasing luggage compartment capacity to 1175 liters.
The manufacturer produced Ford Fusion cars in four configurations. The basic one included central locking, double front airbags, ABS, power windows. In the top configuration these features were complemented by air-conditioner, MP3-player, Bluetooth, light alloy wheel rims, front fog lights, power mirrors with heating, etc.
