The SEAT Altea mini-vans were produced from 2004 until 2015. The assembly was carried out in Spain. In 2004, the car passed the Euro-NCAP crash test receiving a five-star rating. In 2004 and 2005, the model was awarded Auto Trophy established by the German magazine Autozeitung.
The history of SEAT Altea
The manufacturer released one generation, the 5P, and one facelift. The new vehicle was based on the Volkswagen Group’s A5 platform, famous Italian designer Walter de Silva took part in its development. The prominent feature of the exterior was windscreen wipers located in the niches of A-pillars. When not in use, they were hidden behind decorative panels next to A-pillars. That helped to improve the visibility.
The exterior featured a great number of sculpted lines on the car body, almond-shaped headlights, wide front bumper with a three-segment air vent. The manufacturer offered a multifunction steering wheel and infotainment system with a sat nav and screen. Both axles were fitted with brake discs, front ones were ventilated.
In 2006, the FR and XL versions were launched. The first one was marketed as a sports model: it featured a 200 hp engine with direct fuel injection. These cars were equipped with dual exhaust pipes, Bi-Xenon headlights were offered as an optional extra. The second one, the XL, was had larger dimensions. Compared to the base model, it was 187 mm longer (4,467 mm) and 16 mm higher (1,576 mm). The width was the same – 1,770 mm.
Introduced in 2007, the all-wheel-drive version Freetrack had many elements characteristic of SUVs. For example, it was fitted with black plastic bumpers as well as sill protectors and wheel arch trims. The ground clearance became 40 mm higher.
In 2009, the cars were facelifted.
The features of SEAT Altea (the 5P, facelift)
The changes in the exterior involved, in particular, a larger rear window and updated lighting. The equipment of the vehicles was quite extensive: it had power steering, heated power rear-view mirrors, air conditioning system. As for the safety, apart from front airbags, the manufacturer installed curtain airbags as well as ABS and traction control. Electronic stability programme, auto emergency braking, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring system were available as optional extras. The all-wheel-drive version Freetrack was fitted with cruise control and rear parking sensors.
