Rivet gun is a tool that is used to permanently connect flat-sheet materials or plugging holes in them. Types of rivet guns
By type of fastening elements:
- For pop-rivets. Such fastener is made in the form of a sleeve, inside of which a rod with thickening at the end is located. In order to install a rivet, the bearing surface of the tool is pressed to its end, after which the tool is activated. The gun pulls out the rod, deforming walls of the sleeve. The metal fold formed thereby presses the fastened elements to each other.
- For threaded rivets. The fastener is a hollow sleeve with inner thread. The sleeve is inserted into the drilled socket, the tool rod is screwed into it. Rotating, it crumples the non-threaded part of the rivet, pressing it to the surface of one of the bonded parts. Such method provides more durable bonding, than using of pop-rivets, as it provides ability of additional use of threaded fasteners.
By the drive type the products are divided into manual, electric, hydraulic and pneumatic. The mechanical and electric devices can be used in garage, however, the first ones are more affordable by a price. As a rule, the pneumatic and hydraulic tools are used only at service stations.
Tips on rivet guns use
- In order to use the device, drill holes of the appropriate size in parts which are to be connected. Each hole should be 20-30% bigger than the diameter of the fastener sleeve.
- After use, clean and dry the surfaces of the device. Grease the tool with oil for protection from corrosion.
