Two-seat two-door convertibles Smart Crossblade were manufactured from 2002 until 2003 in France. There was a limited number of cars available for sale: only 2,000 units.
The history of Smart Crossblade
Bertrandt AG carried out the development. The concept car was unveiled to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in 2001. The model was based on the Fortwo car and had one generation.
The British singer Robbie Williams bought the car with the serial number “0001”. It was presented during the singer’s tour in 2002. Later this car was sold on eBay. The proceeds of 51,049 euros were transferred to the charity fund “Give It Sum” established by the singer.
The features of Smart Crossblade
An unusual exterior of the convertible attracted people’s attention at once. For example, there were steel handrails instead of doors. You had to lift them to get inside the car. The standard windscreen was replaced with a short plastic part. Due to that, drivers had to wear a helmet or goggles. The manufacturer supplied the latter. The model had unusual three-spoke aluminium wheels and bulging wheel arches. The interior was made in red.
The dimensions of the car allowed it to turn in a limited area: the length was 2622 mm, the width was 1618 mm, the height was 1508 mm. The convertible was mainly intended for riding in good weather, however, it withstood precipitations well. This became possible only with a number of drain holes.
The car was fitted with a turbocharged 0.6 l 70 hp petrol engine. Its maximum speed was 135 km/h. The front axle was fitted with vented brake discs and the rear one – with brake drums. The range of standard equipment included ABS, ESP, two airbags, immobilizer and an audio system with four speakers.
