RENAULT TRAFIC reviews and experiences
Commercial Renault Trafic vehicles have been produced since 1981 until the present day. At different times, they used to be assembled in Spain, France, Argentina, Chile, Great Britain. In 2002, the model shared the Van of the Year award by Eisma Industrial Media with its “twin” Opel Vivaro. In most European countries, these vehicles were sold under the names Nissan Primastar, Opel Arena, Fiat Talento, Nissan NV300, however, in Great Britain, their identical version was available under the name Vauxhall Vivaro. Tata Motors vehicles were built for the Indian market, Chevrolet Space for the Brazilian market and Inokom Permas for Malaysia. This vehicle was offered in the USA under the name Winnebago LeSharo. In 1998, the model became the best-selling light commercial vehicle in Western Europe.
The History of the Renault Trafic
The manufacturer introduced three generations and three uplifted versions of this vehicle. The first generation of the vehicles was made with the van, chassis cab and minibus body styles. The most popular were vans: thanks to the large capacity of their luggage compartment, they were often transformed into camper vans. Apart from standard vehicles with 1.4 l engines, the manufacturer offered versions with the engine displacement of 1.6 l up to 2.5 l. These vehicles were characterised by an extended radiator grille and larger bumper.
In 2001, the second generation, the X83 was unveiled. The model changed greatly: the front part of the car became larger and the lines of the body became sleeker. The vehicle was fitted with a massive modern bumper and square headlights were replaced with stylish, teardrop-shaped ones. These vehicles were rather spacious. Thus, Traficminibus was 4782 mm long, 1904 mm wide and 1940 mm high. Nine people could be seated comfortably in the passenger compartment. The capacity of the luggage compartment was 750 l but due to folding seats, it could be increased up to 4700 l. There were about forty versions of the model made. For example, there were available vehicles with short (3098 mm) and long (3490 mm) wheelbase and also models with increased body height (2460 mm).
In 2006, the model underwent a facelift. The length and width of the minibus remained the same but it became 15 mm higher. In particular, thanks to it, the minimum luggage compartment capacity was 940 l. The bumper grille of the vehicle became more rounded and gained housings for fog lights at its sides; turn-signal lights were built into headlights.
Features of the Renault Trafic vehicles (the X82)
The production of the third generation, the X82, with the van and minibus body styles started in 2014. The new Trafic looks stylish and modern. There is no air vent on the bonnet which used to be under the windscreen. The extended radiator grille is decorated with a large brand badge and headlights gained a peculiar polygonal shape and stretch out along the entire length of the bonnet lid. The fine mesh bumper grille also became bigger. The convex line on the body sides was replaced by exquisite forged lines going upwards on front doors. All handles including those on the rear doors are placed horizontally.
The manufacturer made their vehicles very functional. Thus, the Renault Trafic van generally has enough room for loads of up to 4.15 m. However, for the transportation of longer objects, there is a special locking latch which allows to use the vehicle with its rear door open. As optional extras, there is an aluminium roof luggage tray and hitch available. The vehicle can also be fitted with up to 18 fasteners.
All vehicles are equipped with a number of safety systems. The ABS, electronic stability control and hill-start assist are among them. As an extra, you can equip your car with adaptive cruise control, rear-view camera, the MEDIA NAV multimedia with a touchscreen.
