RENAULT CLIO reviews and experiences
The production of the Renault Clio cars started in 1990 and is still going on. The assembly of the latest generation is carried out in France and Turkey. Earlier, these cars were made in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Belgium and other countries. This vehicle was the first car to receive the “European Car of the Year” award twice: in 1991 and 2006. Until 2000, this model was sold under the name Lutecia in Japan and in the South American markets, it was known as Nissan Platina. Identical cars Renault Thalia were imported to Central Europe and Renault Symbol was supplied to Turkey and some countries of Eastern Europe.
The History of the Renault Clio vehicles
There have been made 4 generations and 6 facelifted versions of this model. The first generation debuted in 1990. It was represented by three-door and five-door hatchbacks. In 1991, these cars were recognised as top-selling vehicles in France. They were used by postal service, gendarmerie and other government institutions.
In 1998, the production of the second generation began. The range of body styles came to include Renault Clio saloon. The manufacturer used novelty materials to build the car. Thus, the front wings were made of plastic eliminating the risk of corrosion damage. Thanks to the aluminium used in the bodies of some versions, the weight of the vehicle was reduced which affected positively the automobile handling. The representatives of the second generation were the first cars which had power steering and two airbags as standard equipment.
In 2005, the third generation was presented. It included three-door and five-door hatchbacks as well as estate cars. These vehicles were the first cars in the history of the model which were fitted with the Renault Card immobiliser. It should also be noted that Clio of that generation gained a five-star rating in the Euro-NCAP crash test.
In 2012, the fourth generation debuted. New cars were equipped with a multimedia system with a touchscreen and navigation system. At first, the generation consisted only of a five-door hatchback, however, since 2013 estate cars are also available. One of the differences between the new model and its predecessor is a stylish design. Thus, headlights, radiator and bumper grilles got updated and sides of the body gained unique forged lines in the lower part. There are versions with a six-speed double-clutch gearbox.
Features of the Renault Clio vehicles (IV generation, facelift)
The facelifted version became available in 2016 with the estate car and five-door hatchback body styles. As for the exterior, the radiator grille of the car was narrowed. The bumper grille became large and gained a strict shape. It looks elegant together with the renewed fog lights. All these things make the vehicle look more energetic which was extrinsic to its prior versions.
The base trim of the Clio hatchback and estate car includes 4 airbags, the ESP, speed limit, adjustable steering column. Moreover, there is a Bose Edition with the BOSE sound system, R-LINK Evolution multimedia system, automatic air conditioning, heated seats.
