History of Lexus LS

Five generations were released and five restylings were performed during the whole manufacturing period. Lexus LS saloon of the first generation, XF10, was presented at North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 1989. These were the first series-production cars in manufacturing of which wide laser welding was used; it allowed to attach metal almost seamlessly. LS XF30, released in 2000, was the first Lexus car equipped with the adaptive cruise-control and Keyless Go start system. The fourth generation saloon, XF40, has been produced since 2006. It was the first Lexus which came in two wheelbase variants: standard and increased. The car design corresponded to the new manufacturer’s concept, L-finesse. It is based on the Japanese traditional symbolism, representing accuracy and dynamics. XF40 became the world’s first series-production car with 8-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid version of the model was also presented within this generation. The scratch-resistant self-healing coating started to be used for car body painting after restyling in 2006.

In 2012 Lexus LS cars of the fourth generation were renewed. The new radiator grille is amongst the most significant exterior changes.
