History of Fiat Stilo

The model is presented by one generation, 192, which was restyled twice. Its premiere took place on Geneva Motor Show in April, 2001. The car replaced Fiat Bravo and Fiat Brava. Peter Fassbender worked on design of the new model.

The car was marketed as eye-catching, modern vehicle for young people, who prefer active lifestyle. According to manufacturer’s idea, the car had to be totally different from classic Italian Fiat Bravo in design. Slight resemblance to MKIV Volkswagen Golf could be noticed in new car’s exterior. Due to this, the car seemed to critics to be too “German”. Sales results for this model fell short of manufacturer’s expectations, despite that Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello participated in advertising campaign.

In outward appearance, 3-door hatchback Stilo resembled a sports car, which can not be said about the 5-door version. Distinct differences between these cars are noticeable, for example, in shape of wheel rims, rear lights, front bumper grille. Moreover, 3-door car was 75 mm shorter, 30 mm wider and 50 mm lower than 5-door one.

After restyling in 2003, more powerful engines appeared in the list of available power units. And a new brand logo was mounted on the luggage compartment door. The last restyling took place in 2006. Later, the model was replaced by upgraded Fiat Bravo, production of which started in 2007. At the same time, Fiat Stilo production continued in Italy till 2008, and till 2010 – in Brazil.

Features of restyled Fiat Stilo cars

Renewed cars were available in versions of station wagon, 5- and 3-door hatchbacks. Restyling allowed to improve interior, particularly, mounting location of power mirrors controls was changed in Fiat Stilo station wagon. Moreover, other kinds of fabrics were used by the manufacturer for interior upholstery, which added more elegant look to the passenger compartment.
