History of Fiat Ducato cars

Three generations and three restyled versions were released during existence of the model. The first cars, generation 280, appeared in 1981 as the result of collaboration between Fiat Group and Groupe PSA concern. The cars were manufactured at Sevel Sud factory in Atessa. Twin-cars Alfa Romeo AR6, Citroen C25, Peugeot J5 were also produced there. The model was available in versions of van, cab chassis truck, pickup, minibus.

The cars produced after 1989 restyling were marked with 290 code. Direction of radiator grille ribs of these cars was changed, together with side mirrors design. Moreover, turn indicators were located not under the lights, but beside them.

Production of Fiat Ducato cars of 230 generation started in 1993. In comparison with predecessors it looked more elegant. Particularly, it became possible thanks to more streamlined body shape. Outward appearance of the bumper, headlights and side mirrors changed. ItalDesign company worked on car body exterior look.

The restyled version, 244, was produced in 2002. Apart from the changed body shape, updates included a modified front bumper and stylish radiator grille with a new brand emblem.

The cars of 250 generation are produced since 2006. Changes affected not only bumpers and radiator grille, but optics as well. So, turn indicator repeaters appeared on side mirrors. Maxi version with 4 ton loading capacity came to the market. In 2014 restyling was performed; the renewed cars are produced under 290/295 code.

The manufacturer equipped the restyled cars with numerous useful features as standard. For instance, Ducato minibus specification included hydraulic brake assist, electronic stability program, hill start assist, load adaptive control function. A multi-purpose holder for smartphones and tablets is mounted in the cabin.
