History of Fiat Panda

Three generations and four restyled versions were produced during model existence. The first generation, 141, was released in 1980. Giorgetto Giugiaro worked on design of this 3-door hatchback. The car was characterized by affordable price and compact dimensions: body length was 3408 mm, width – 1494 mm, height – 1420 mm. All-wheel drive version, 153, was manufactured since 1983.

Restyling of 1986 affected the radiator grille: it was enlarged and now took all the space between the headlights. Moreover, the manufacturer changed front bumper shape and enlarged air-inlet on the hood lid. And in 1990, 2-seat electric car Elettra was released. Batteries were mounted instead of rear seats of this car.

The second generation of Fiat Panda hatchback, 169, was produced since 2003. The car became 5-door, got a more modern body, fog lights and enlarged front bumper, moldings on the sides, in the front and rear parts. Design of this generation was developed by Giuliano Biasio. This generation cars started to be equipped with ABS, EBD, and at least one front airbag. 319 generation is available since 2012 and its design was developed by Fiat Style Center specialists.

The latest generation model was presented to public on International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main in 2011. Body shape of a new car was renewed, the front bumper was changed and its grill – enlarged, the hood lid became more convex, and turn indicators were separated from the headlights and relocated lower.

As standard, the car is equipped with a radio receiver and two speakers, power windows, steering wheel adjustable by height. Moreover, the manufacturer equipped the car with four airbags, Isofix anchorage system for a child seat, antilocking brake system, electronic brake force distribution, and emergency brake assist.

For advertisement video, Fiat created an unusual car, Monster Truck. This vehicle was made as a 5-door Panda hatchback with the chassis of Jeep CJ7. Thus, the compact car got giant wheels. Height of Monster Truck was 390 cm. The unusual promo-car was built in 2 weeks.
