Fan failure
- appearance of cracks and chips;
- contact oxidation;
- blown fuse block;
- discharge of contacts in the assembly block;
- wear of ignition relay;
- broken resistor.
Symptoms of fan failure
- heater switches irregularly (only when engine is warm);
- malfunction of the heater switch;
- the heater works only in an extreme position;
- heater does not turn on.
Causes of fan faults
- a short circuit in the wiring;
- wear of components;
- overvoltage in the circuit;
- moisture getting on the item.
Diagnosis of fan
In the first place it is recommended to check whether the wiring is burned. The consequence of this problem is usually getting blown fuse filler in the fuse. If you have a suspicion that faulty contacts are in the mounting block (one of the most frequent breakdowns), then you should move the harness wires going to the unit. If the motor starts working, then perform an inspection of the contact block. If you suspect a failure of the switch (as shown by the failure of the fan speed controller), you need to prepare a 12 V light bulb and solder two wires to it. You can then proceed to disassembling of the center console to get to the switch on the back side. Now you need to turn on the ignition, not starting the car and connect the light bulb "minus" with a cleaned spot of the car body. The second wire alternately connect to terminals 1, 2 and 3, putting the switch to the correct position at the same time. If the lamp lights, the switch is working, if not, then connect the light bulb to the "plus" arm. If the lamp still does not light up, it means that the fault cause is in the wiring, or blown fuse link.
Repair of fan
Quite often, the problem with the faulty fan can be solved by replacing the fuse or clearing the short circuit. Such work is recommended to carry out on a special stand at the station. The faults also often occur due to ignition relay breakage which is simply replaced. It is also possible that the disruptions are caused by the malfunction of the fan motor. In case of power supply to motor and unstable work there are several options of causes and solutions. Thus, disruptions in the auto part operation can be caused by poor contact on the fan, sticking of motor brushes and motor burnout. In the first two cases, experts easily solve the problem, in the third, you will have to replace the motor.
