Suzuki Grand Vitara crossover was produced in Japan from 1998 to 2015. The car was awarded “Best Small Wagon” by the “Overlander” magazine from 2008 to 2010. Almost in all Latin American countries the same-name model was produced under Chevrolet brand. This car was known as Chevrolet Tracker in North America, in Chile – as Suzuki Grand Nomade, in Japan – as Mazda Proceed Levante, Suzuki Escudo and Grand Escudo.
History of Suzuki Grand Vitara cars
The manufacturer offered two generations and three restyled versions of these cars. First cars of this model, produced under FT/GT index since 1998, were marketed in most countries as the second generation of Suzuki Vitara. Apart from 3- and 5-door cars with the classic enclosed body, crossovers with retractable soft top were also available. Part-time 4WD is worth noting among the first generation features. Moreover, Suzuki Grand Vitara XL-7 cars with the fully aluminium V6 engine were presented in 2001.
The second generation, JT, was available since 2005. These cars had full-time 4WD and independent suspension. A trim package with xenon lights, leather interior trimming and glass sunroof was available at that time. The model underwent insignificant restyling in 2009. The renewed crossover could be recognized by turn indicators integrated into side mirrors. The second restyling was performed in 2012. And in 2015 this model was discontinued in most countries.

European premiere of the renewed car took place at Moscow International Automobile Salon. Grand Vitara received a new radiator grille with horizontal bars widening towards the centre. Designers left the decorative chromed element only in the lower part of the grille. The front bumper became more massive and sculpted. Fog lights got black plastic frames.
The Grand Vitara crossover was equipped with hydraulic power steering, tilt adjustable steering column, electric mirrors and rear windows, height adjustable driver seat. Also, the manufacturer has installed driver’s airbag, as well as side airbags and curtain airbags. Moreover, standard equipment list included ABS, emergency brake assist, brake override system (BOS). Among others the manufacturer offered a trim level to which a parking assist could be added for extra charge.
