Production of Suzuki Alto cars started in 1979. They are still produced, but in Europe they were officially sold only until 2014. In different periods assembling was performed in Japan, New Zealand, China, Pakistan, Colombia, India. Early cars of this model were twins of Suzuki Fronte presented on the Japanese market. The cars which were produced later are known in Japan under Mazda Carol and Nissan Pino names. In Pakistan the model was available as Suzuki Mehran, in European countries – as Maruti 800. Moreover, Nissan Pixo is a similar car on the European market.
History of Suzuki Alto cars
During model existence the manufacturer produced 8 generations and performed 3 restylings. Suzuki Alto first generation, SS30V/40V, launched in 1979, was presented by 3- and 5-door hatchbacks as well as MPVs. Due to low price these cars were the real sensation on a market.
CA71 generation was available since 1984. The manufacturer stopped using the MPV body. Apart from front-wheel drive cars, the ones with all-wheel drive were offered. An interesting feature of CL/CM11 generation, which started in 1988, was a variant with a sliding door. It was especially convenient for elderly people.
HA11 generation debuted in 1994. Since then extended trim levels featured an air-conditioner and power steering. Moreover, the manufacturer offered Works Turbo car, which was equipped with the remote engine start system and high-quality stereo system.
The fifth generation, HA12/22, was presented in 1998. Apart from 3- and 5-door Alto hatchbacks, the MPV was again offered. In this period production of variants with continuously variable transmission started. Appearance of HA24 generation with a 5-door hatchback body in 2004 was marked by extension of available options list. For example, the cars then could be equipped with autonomous emergency braking system and brake force distribution system.
The manufacturer presented the Eco modification as a part of HA25 generation launched in 2009. Its main peculiarity is efficient performance. It was achieved through using the Start-Stop system. The eighth generation is now presented on the Japanese market. But in Europe the model was replaced with Suzuki Celerio since 2014.
Features of Suzuki Alto HA25
The seventh generation of the car debuted in 2008 on Paris Motor Show. In the exterior of new 5-door Suzuki Alto hatchback smooth lines prevailed. Almost drop-shaped headlights looked unusual. A rather large radiator grille had a trapezoid shape with rounded corners. Fog lights in almond-shaped framing were located on each side of it. Side mirrors were painted in body colour.
The cabin looked rather stylish due to dark colours dominating in interior, and red lighting of instruments on the dashboard. All the cars were equipped with Isofix child seat fasteners and a keyless entry system.
