SAAB 9000 parts: find out more!
Saab 9000 vehicles were manufactured between 1984 and 1998. They rolled off the assembly lines in Sweden and Finland. With that model, the manufacturer entered the market of luxury cars. In 1985, the French magazine L’Action Automobile chose it as the “Best Prestige Car”.
The history of Saab 9000
The development of the model started as early as 1974 to replace the outdated model 99. The new car was created in collaboration with the Fiat Group and resembled Fiat Croma, Lancia Thema, Alfa Romeo 164. The Swedish car differed from its analogues by improved and more durable body design.
This vehicle, which had one generation and one facelift, was developed in collaboration with the Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro and Swedish designer Björn Envall. The model was unveiled for journalists at a conference at Kolmården Wildlife Park in Sweden. At first, the manufacturer offered only a five-door liftback. The saloon was available since 1987. Its front part was more streamlined which improved the aerodynamics. The width and height of both cars were 1763 and 1420 mm, respectively. The length of the saloon was 4782 mm and the liftback was 4620 mm long.
These cars had a trapezoidal radiator grille with chrome trim, rectangular headlamps, massive black bumpers, and mouldings on the sides. Starting in 1988, the cars were equipped with the Saab Information Display (SID). It showed, for example, the information about fuel consumption, battery voltage during engine start.
The features of Saab 9000 (I generation, facelift)
The restyled five-door liftback became available in 1991. Its width and height remained the same but it became 141 mm longer. The prominent features of the exterior were narrow radiator grille and headlights. Besides, these lighting elements became round. The saloon was updated in the same way only in 1994.
