The Saab 9-5 cars were manufactured in Sweden from 1997 until 2011 and were bestsellers in the domestic automotive market for a long time. In 1998, the model was recognised as the best imported executive car by the German automobile magazine Auto motor und sport, and in 2001 it received a similar title from the American Automobile Association.
The history of Saab 9-5
There were only two generations and two facelifts. The first generation, the YS3E, debuted at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main. Saloon and estate car body styles were available. It was the first production car of the brand with ventilated seats equipped with active headrests (SAHR). In 2003, the car received the highest rating in the Euro-NCAP crash tests, and in 2003 and 2005 the Swedish insurance company Folksam recognized it as the safest car.
The features of Saab 9-5 (the YS3G)
The YS3G generation of the model 9-5 was unveiled at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main in autumn 2009. The cars, only available as a saloon, were assembled until 2011 to a total of 11,280 units made.
The model combined eye-catching exterior with cutting-edge technologies. The sculptured body of the car, radiator grille with a large brand emblem in the centre, a sizable front bumper and a great number of chrome elements highlighted a truly Scandinavian design of the vehicle.
The interior of the car featured some parts trimmed with natural leather, front and rear heated seats. Besides, these vehicles were equipped with three-zone climate control, Harman/Kardon sound system and a sat nav. In the front seatbacks, there were folding infotainment system displays which could be connected to passengers’ mobile devices.
A head-up display, adaptive lighting, lane departure warning system were offered to assist drivers. Besides, vehicles were equipped with a parking sensor, adaptive cruise control and electric parking brake.
