SAAB 9-3 parts: find out more!
The Saab 9-3 was produced by the Swedish manufacturer from 1998 until 2014. Many experts praised these cars for a high safety level. They passed various crash tests successfully and even got the highest five stars from the Euro-NCAP in 2002. In 2000, a racer won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb competition in the sports version Viggen Pikes Peak. The car, reaching 100 km/h in just 2.3 seconds, allowed finishing the race with the record time. By the way, this record remained unbeaten up until 2012.
The history of Saab 9-3
The manufacturer released two generations and two facelifts of the model. The first generation, the YS3D, was available as three- and five-door hatchbacks and a convertible. Apart from traditional petrol engines, for the first time, the brand offered a 2.2 litre diesel power unit. There was a multi-function steering wheel and Night Panel technology that dims the lighting of some dashboard instruments.
The sports three-door hatchback 9–3 Viggen, available on the market between 1999 and 2002, had an aerodynamic body kit and a rear spoiler. It featured a turbocharged engine with an intercooler and, starting from 2001 – a traction control system. The drag coefficient was 0.31.
In 2002, the YS3F generation was launched at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Initially, the manufacturer offered only saloons. In 2004, convertibles became available for sale and a year later – five-door estate cars. Among the updates worth paying attention to was the OnStar service responsible for navigation and wireless communications. Besides, it allowed contacting the rescue services quickly in case of an accident. The infotainment system now had satellite radio and a CD player. All cars were equipped with electronic stability programme (ESP) and traction control.
The features of Saab 9-3 (the YS3F, facelifts)
The first update of the YS3F took place in 2007. The range of body colours became wider. As for the exterior, the radiator grille became larger, the bonnet – more sculptured, and headlight shape - more modern. Besides, the manufacturer updated the sat nav and climate control systems. The car seats were equipped with Saab Active Head Restraints (SAHR). In 2008, all-wheel-drive versions entered the market. As a result of the facelift of 2011, some of the engines were equipped with the direct fuel injection system for better fuel efficiency. The range of available power units was completed with more environmentally friendly BioPower engines.
