Read out age of the tire from the DOT number
Deciphering the age works for all tires that have been produced since 2000. The so-called DOT number is a four-digit number, embedded in an oval. Example:
21162116
In our example you see the following DOT number: 2116 The first two digits show the production week, while the last two digits show the production year. So the tire in our example has been produced in week 21 in 2016
Note: Tires which are older than six years are considered to be too old and should despite their profiles be changed. Tires are not only a subject to a physical but also to a chemical aging process, influenced by heat, cold, oxygen, UV radiation and moisture. Tires become brittle and lose their efficiency.
