The Japanese company Bridgestone Tire Co., Ltd. was launched in the city of Kurume in 1931. The founder was Shojiro Ishibashi, a local businessman and inventor, who set his mind on establishing Japan's first car tire manufacture. Opening an office in Brussels, Belgium the company entered the European market in 1972. In 1984 the company got its present-day name - Bridgestone Corporation.
