Subaru Outback cars are produced since 1995 till present. The model is assembled in Japan and the USA. In 2010 the car was awarded “Top Safety Pick” from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (USA). History of Subaru Outback cars

The model was built on the platform of Legacy station wagon, and nowadays is represented by five generations and two restyled versions. The first generation, BG, was produced in 5-door station wagon version. For the Japanese market, sedans were produced in limited series. All cars were equipped with all-wheel drive. Specific features of model exterior were large round fog lights in the front bumper, and two-coloured body. The bonnet featured an air-inlet which in most modifications of the car performed decorative function only.

The Bra generation started in 1999 in body versions of station wagon and sedan. The cars were equipped with such systems as Variable Torque Distribution and ESP with traction control, thanks to which, they were notable for excellent roadability. All rear seats had headrests. Unlike the sedan, Subaru Outback station wagon had seats which could be transformed, thus allowing to increase volume of the luggage compartment from 528 to 1649 liters. Expanded trim levels included leather interior upholstery.

The third generation, BP, came to the market in 2003. It was represented by station wagons only. Modifications with 5-speed automatic transmission and 6-cylinder 3.0L 245 hp engine became available. Moreover, horizontally-opposed diesel engine appeared in the engines list. Its total displacement was 2 liters and power – 150 hp.

Models of BR generation, started since 2009, were bigger in size. So, body length increased by 45 mm and was 4775 mm. Width of the station wagon was 1820 mm (50 mm larger than that of the predecessor). Height of Subaru Outback increased from 1545 mm to 1605 mm. Modifications with Lineartronic infinitely variable transmission came on sale, while 6-cylinder motor was excluded from the available engines list. The fifth generation, BS, is produced since 2014 till present.
