Subaru Forester is a compact crossover, produced since 1997 till present. The cars rolled off the conveyors at company’s factories in Japan and Malaysia. The model was produced under Chevrolet brand for the Indian market. In 2010 the car got “Top Safety Pick 2010” prize from American organization Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. History of Subaru Forester cars

Totally, four generations and four restyled versions of cars were presented. In the first generation, SF, the model differed visually from classic crossovers and looked like a station wagon. However, all-wheel drive and seats with high position showed that Forester was a crossover. Its length was 4450 mm, width – 1735 mm, height – 1595 mm. The manufacturer marketed the car as SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) and sold it under “SUV tough, Car Easy” slogan. As standard features, air-conditioner, audio system, power windows, adjustable front seats with lumbar support were available. In 2000 the car underwent restyling.

In 2002 the manufacturer presented to public the second generation of the model, SG, on Chicago Motor Show. The car was notable for improved steerability in urban conditions and reduced emissions. These cars made up 60% of all model sales. In 2005 design of Forester was renewed.

The third generation, SH, was presented in Japan in 2007, and in 2008 – in Europe and the USA. The crossover noticeably increased in size: length reached 4560 mm, width – 1780 mm, height – 1675 mm. The satellite navigation system with Bluetooth support, and premium class audio system became available for the car. Restyling of the car was performed in 2011.

Production of the fourth generation, SJ, started in 2012. Standard equipment of cars included: 4-channel ABS, dynamic stabilization system (VDC), electronic brake force distribution system (EBD), as well as frontal and side airbags. airbag curtains and additional airbags for driver’s knees. In 2014 they started to provide cars with a new function, a system of driver assist in poor weather and off-road conditions – X Mode.

Features of restyled Subaru Forester SJ cars

Restyling of the fourth crossover generation, SJ, was presented in 2016. The renewed model looks respectable and modern, in particular, thanks to the massive front bumper with big frames of the fog lights, and almond-shaped halogen headlights with built-in LED daytime running lights. In extended trim levels, the cars are equipped with LED headlights supporting function of adaptive cornering lighting.

It is comfortable and spacious in the crossover passenger compartment. The front seats are equipped with heating, and the driver’s seat is 8-way adjustable also having positions memory function. Standard equipment of the top trim level includes 7-inch colour display, acoustic system with 8 speakers, DAB digital radio, AUX and USB sockets for external devices connection, Bluetooth interface.

Subaru Forester cars are equipped with numerous safety systems. They are emergency brake assist system (BA), Hill Start assist, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Extended trim levels have adaptive cruise control and Active Lane Keeping Assist as standard.
