The Porsche Boxster roadster, which entered the production in 1996, is still manufactured. Today, the cars roll off the assembly line in Germany but earlier they were made in Finland as well. The car received numerous prizes including the Best New Product title from the American Marketing Association in 1997, the Best Driver's Car from the Motor Trend American periodical in 2009, and the Sports Car of the Year from the What Car? magazine in 2015. Apart from that, in 2013 and 2017 it was given the World Performance Car title in the World Car of the Year contest. This prize is annually awarded by journalists of specialised periodicals.

The background of Porsche Boxster

The roadster is represented by four generations and two facelifts. The first generation launched  in 1996 was labelled as 986. One of distinctive features of the new car were two luggage compartments: at the front and rear. Besides, it was the first vehicle fitted with the brand’s electronic Stability Management system, which was responsible for the road-holding ability.

The 987 generation was introduced in 2004. The new model was fitted with six airbags. In 2007, the manufacturer showed the RS60 Spyder version. Only 1,960 car units of this model rolled off the assembly line. The cars were equipped with 19-inch sports wheel rims, and the passenger compartment was trimmed with red leather. The Spyder version which appeared in 2009 became the lightest car of those produced at that time by the brand. The use of aluminium for making the car body parts contributed to reducing the vehicle weight to 1,275 kg.

The 981 generation, launched in 2012, got an electromechanical power steering instead of a hydraulic one. Besides, the Start-stop system was offered as standard. In 2016, the 982 cars debuted. They were marked as 718. The presentation of the new model took place at the Geneva Motor Show.

The features of the Porsche 718 Boxster 982

The new roadster was standardly equipped with bi-Xenon headlights with built-in LED daytime running lights. The radiator grille became wider at the bottom, and side air vents got an additional horizontal bar.

The vehicles are fitted with the POSIP system as standard. It includes a set of airbags for the driver and passenger, as well as protective elements built into the doors. Besides, the car features a rollover protection technology.
