Volkswagen Touran minivan is produced since 2003 till present in Germany, Indonesia, China. The car was among market leaders in MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) class from 2004 till 2011. In 2005 it became “The Compact Van of the Year” according to famous British “What Car?” magazine.
History of Volkswagen Touran
The model is presented by two generations and two restyled versions. The manufacturer paid much attention to safety. For example, the first generation cars, produced since 2003, were equipped with the stability control system, airbags for a driver and all passengers, including side airbags in the basic configuration. In the Euro NCAP crash-tests the model scored maximum stars in “Adult occupant safety” category.
In 2006 the car underwent restyling. It became lower than its predecessor by 12 mm, while length and width remained the same: 4391 mm and 1794 mm respectively. Relief decorative elements appeared on the front part of Touran minivan, the rear bumper became more distinctive, while the headlights got unusual shape: roundish with sharpened corner on one side and angular – on the other.
The manufacturer unveiled second restyling of the first VW Touran generation at Leipzig Auto Show in 2010. The car got narrow radiator grille without chrome-plated edging. The bumper grille became longer and elongated headlights became pentagonal. The rear lights were then mounted horizontally, not vertically.
Features of second generation Volkswagen Touran cars
Debut of the second model generation took place on Geneva Motor Show in 2015. New cars look more aggressive thanks to stylish front bumper with protruding grille and distinctive recessed lines on body sides. Optionally, LED headlights and rear lights are available for the model, as well as adaptive lighting system (Dynamic Light Assist).
The interior of the new Volkswagen Touran car became more spacious, due to body length increased by 130 mm and width – by 35 mm. On the contrary, height was decreased by 6 mm in comparison with the predecessor. Additionally, you can install third seat row in the car, thus increasing quantity of seats to 7. All passenger seats in the car are transformable. Moreover, if necessary, two of them can be replaced by special child seats.
Luggage compartment capacity reaches 1980 liters if the seats are folded. It is equipped with height-adjustable floor as a standard or optional equipment according to the configuration. Panoramic roof is optionally available. Also you can install in the car the “Climatronic” three-zone climate control with function of air cleaning from dust and other allergens.
The list of additional equipment for this model is really impressive. It includes the hands-free luggage compartment opening system (Easy Open) and driving lane keeping assistant (Side Assist), adaptive cruise control with distance control technology (Front Assist) and many others.
