Volkswagen Touareg is an off-roader, production of which began in 2002 and continues till present. During its manufacturing, assembly was performed in Slovakia, Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, India. In 2003 the famous “Car and Driver” magazine gave the car “Best Luxury SUV” title. And in 2004 the car became “Car of the Year” amongst off-roaders according to the popular “Motor Trend” magazine.
History of Volkswagen Touareg
During model existence the manufacturer presented two generations and two restyled versions. The first generation Touareg, Typ 7L, was marketed as the most powerful off-roader of its time. It length was 4754 mm, width – 1928 mm, height – 1726 mm. In order to demonstrate capabilities of the car the manufacturer held an unusual experiment: a 155-tonnes Boeing-747 airliner was attached to the car and it was able to tow it.
Launch of the second car generation, Typ 7P, took place in 2010. The car became longer than its predecessor by 41 mm and wider by 12 mm. Roofline was lower by 17 mm, which affected the car’s aerodynamic properties positively. At the same time, model weight was reduced by 200 kg. The Touareg SUV became the world’s first car equipped with intelligent high beam light control technology (Dynamic Light Assist).
Features of restyled Volkswagen Touareg Typ 7P cars
In 2014 the manufacturer unveiled the updated version of the model. The car started looking more presentable than its predecessor. It kept unusual deepenings on the sides, but got chromed molding along the whole body perimeter, a new rear bumper with smoother lines, while the middle section of the three-segmented front bumper grille became A-shaped. Four chromed plates are now mounted on the radiator grille instead of two, and large headlights are equipped with bi-xenon lamps even in basic configuration.
Car interior is a combination of luxury and high tech. The manufacturer offers various leather upholstery options and provides opportunity to select interior trimming with valuable wood species. “Climatronic” air-conditioner with dual-zone climate control, multifunctional “Plus” display, RCD 550 audio-system with MP3/MP4 support and built-in CD-changer for 6 CDs are available in the basic configuration.
Volkswagen Touareg cars can be optionally equipped with pneumatic suspension, hands-free luggage compartment opening technology “Easy Open”, “DYNAUDIO Confidence” audio-system with 12 loudspeakers, “RNS 850” navigation system supporting voice control. Also, the “Hill Start Assist” hill ascending and descending assistance system, “Area View” 360 degree view system, “Front Assist” distance control system and a rear view camera are optionally available.
