The model Renault Laguna was introduced in 1993 and produced until 2015. The assembly was carried out in South Africa, Pakistan, Malaysia, France. The car of this model received the best rating passing the Euro NCAP crash tests. Moreover, this vehicle was awarded the Semperit Irish Car of the Year title in 2002. It was established by the Irish Motoring Writers Association.
The History of the Renault Laguna vehicles
During the time of the existence of the model, the manufacturer presented 3 generations and 3 facelifted versions. The first generation debuted in 1993 replaced the Renault 21. Initially, the new car was available only with the five-door liftback body style, however, in 1995 Laguna estate car was presented. The vehicle was highly-equipped for its time. For example, the list of standard equipment included power steering, electric windows, remote central locking.
In 2001, the second generation of the model became available. Conventional keys were not used to open and start these cars. The Keyless Drive device with buttons for locking and unlocking the car was used instead. There was also a Keyless Entry & Drive option which could function automatically: when a driver approached the car, it recognised the built-in chip and the vehicle was unlocked as soon as the driver touched the door handle. In order to start the engine, you had to insert the card into the special reader on the console. If the driver got out of the car, it was automatically locked.
In 2007, the debut of the third generation took place. It was created together with Nissan, based on the D platform designed for the front-wheel-drive cars of medium size. All cars were fitted with a 6-speed gearbox, unlike their predecessors which had 4-speed gearboxes, for example. The range of body styles was extended: in November 2008, Renault Laguna coupe became available. In 2010, the liftback and estate car were redesigned and in 2012 the coupe was also renewed. The production of the model was discontinued in 2015.
Features of the Renault Laguna vehicles (III, facelift)
The car debuted at the Paris Auto Show in November 2010. Due to the updated front part, the Renault Laguna vehicles gained a more aggressive look. Earlier, the fog lights were installed into the bumper grille, however, after the facelift, it became the centre of the composition itself. This effect was strengthened by a chrome frame. The coupe that became available in 2012 could be easily recognised by its black roof and wing mirror covers.
