PEUGEOT 106 reviews and experiences
The Peugeot 106 is a city car that was manufactured between 1991 and 2003. During this time, more than 2,798,000 car units were assembled. The production of the cars was carried out in France and Tunisia. It was one of the most popular models in the video game Need for Speed: Underground 2. We can come across this vehicle also in other racing games, particularly, in Shox Extreme Rally for the PlayStation 2 and Gran Turismo.
The History of the Peugeot 106 vehicles
The manufacturer introduced one generation and one facelifted version of the model. At first, this front-wheel-drive car was manufactured only as the three-door hatchback. It was 3564 mm long, 1590 mm wide and 1369 mm high. Such dimensions provided excellent manoeuvrability of the car and ease of parking in urban conditions. In 1992, a five-door version of the car appeared.
Also in 1992, a sports version with a 100 hp engine was presented. In 1993, the company produced a rally version of the 106 in the number of 11 thousand car units. The car weighed only 825 kg due to the absence of central lock, power windows, and due to use of alloy wheels.
In 1995, an electric powered model appeared. It used a Nickel-cadmium battery and could accelerate up to 90 km/h. 6400 car units of the Electriques 106 hatchback were sold between 1995 and 2003. Most of them were purchased by the French Administration.
Features of the Peugeot 106 (generation I, facelift)
In 1996, the facelifted version of the model debuted. The renewed Peugeot 106 vehicles were available in the three- and five-door hatchback body styles as before. The size of the car increased: it became 3680 mm long, 1594 mm wide and 1380 mm high. The body of the model became more streamlined, the headlights whose shape had been nearly rectangular became almost triangular. Some trim levels featured round fog lights on the front bumper.
The car was quite comfortable, functional and safe. So, the base trim level of the car included power steering. Some trim levels offered folding back seats, luggage compartment lighting as standard equipment. Responsible for the safety were, in particular, airbags (including side ones since 2001) and anti-lock braking system (ABS). There was also an immobiliser with the transponder in the key.
