Characteristics of SAE 5W-40 motor oils
SAE 5W-40 oils are used in a wide temperature range. Their viscous characteristics allow to prevent engine wear-out, caused by dry friction at extremely low temperatures and severe overheating. They are recommended for application in the motors with high mileage.
Exploitation of lubricants with 5W index in winter is allowed at temperatures up to −35 °С, that is why in most European countries they guarantee efficient protection of the engine even in the first seconds of its operation.
At heating, the engine is also reliably protected due to the optimal viscosity (the dynamic is 2.9 mPa⋅s, and the kinematic varies in 12.6–16.3 mm2/s range). In conditions, when engine loads are increasing, the viscosity of the lubricant corresponds to less viscous products of 30 class. Thanks to this maximal power and fuel efficiency of the engine are achieved.
