Characteristics of SAE 15W-40 motor oils

SAE 15W-40 oil retains optimal viscosity both at low and high temperature. It securely protects new engines as well as power units with high mileage.

The dynamic viscosity of 15W lubricant sufficient for the crankshaft to rotate with the torque necessary for engine start is retained at −20 °С, and sufficient for continuous oil pump work – at −25 °С.

The products of 40 class demonstrate great properties at heating as well. At temperature of 100 °С, which corresponds to normal engine work, their kinematic viscosity varies within 12.6–16.3 mm2/s. When the engine temperature increases at maximum loading conditions, the dynamic viscosity is retained the same as that of more dense products: at 150 °C and shear rate of 106 s -1 it is 3.7 mPa∙s.
