Mitsubishi Outlander crossover debuted in 2001 and is still produced nowadays. This model started on the Japanese market as Mitsubishi Airtrek. Assembling is performed in Japan, China, Malaysia, Russia. The twins of the second generation of this model are Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser. Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) modification of the model got into the final of World Green Car of the Year contest.

History of Mitsubishi Outlander

The model is represented by three generations and three restyled versions. Outlander cars of the first generation, CU0W, which started in 2001, were front- and all-wheel drive, and had independent suspension. Modification with 2.0L 201 hp engine was available among others. The eye-catching feature of this car exterior was an impressive air-inlet on the bonnet.

The second generation, CW0W, debuted in 2006. The important feature of the novelty was possibility to use stepless transmission. In 2010 the model underwent restyling. Contours of the headlights changed shape, side mirrors featured in-built turn indicator repeaters, the radiator grille was considerably enlarged and got chromed frame. Moreover, the manufacturer implemented its own advanced all-wheel drive system – Mitsubishi S-AWC.

Production of the third generation of Mitsubishi Outlander cars, CW0, started in 2012. Highly efficient technologies for handling optimization were used in the cars. So, Eco Drive systems and Eco Score display allowed to select the most efficient driving style. The Start-Stop system promoted rational fuel consumption, automatically switching the engine off, for instance, at stopping at traffic lights. Moreover, in 2012 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle was presented.

In 2014 slight restyling of the third generation cars was performed. Particularly, shape of the radiator grille became sharper, and protective covers appeared on the bumpers. Also the restyling car was easily recognizable from the predecessor by wheel arch trim covers. Car design was changed for the second time in 2015.

Features of CW0 Mitsubishi Outlander cars, restyling II

The renewed car debuted on New York International Auto Show. “Dynamic Shield” concept became the basis for exterior design; one of its key features is presence of side protective elements on the bumper. The headlights, which now are equipped with LED daytime running lights even as standard, are located closely to impressive radiator grille. Moreover, you can select configuration of Mitsubishi Outlander with fully LED headlights.

Basic trim level of the car includes seven airbags, electronic stability control MASC, hill start assist system (HSA), heated power outer mirrors, multifunction steering wheel. You can choose a more expensive configuration, for example, with dual-zone climate control, adjustable heating of the front seats, rear view camera, keyless entry system. Together with the top trim level, you will get premium audio system Rockford Fosgate, multimedia equipment Mitsubishi Multi Communication System, blind spots monitoring system Blind Spot Assist, and other useful features.
