Land Rover Freelander crossover was produced from 1997 till 2014. The manufacturing took place in Great Britain, India, China, Jordan. This vehicle was the top-selling all-wheel drive car in Europe till 2002. Moreover, in Great Britain it was the most-demanded car in its class till 2006. The cars of the second generation were sold in North America as Land Rover  LR2.

History of Land Rover Freelander

The model is presented by two generations and three restyled versions. The first generation started in 1997 and was badged as LN. The manufacturer offered 5- and 3-door crossovers. The latter could be equipped with a rigid or soft roof. All the cars had ABS and traction control system. The model looked austere and respectable due to the massive front bumper, classic rectangular headlights, wheel arch extensions.

In 2003 Land Rover Freelander underwent restyling. The most noticeable change of the exterior was the installment of the double round reflectors in the headlights. Moreover, there were less black elements in the front and rear body parts.

The second generation debuted in 2006. It was marked as LF and produced in the 5-door body version only. The car was equipped with the road conditions adaptation system Terrain Response. Alpine acoustic system with 14 speakers provided high-quality surround sound. While the navigation system with the 7-inch touchscreen helped to map a route quickly.

During restyling, carried out in 2010, Freelander crossover got the narrower radiator grille. An additional air inlet appeared under it. The round fog light frames were replaced with pentagonal ones. The next restyling was held in 2012. Production of the car stopped in two years; its successor was Land Rover Discovery Sport.

Features of restyled Land Rover Freelander LF II cars

The restyled car looked more elegant than its predecessor, in particular, thanks to the chromed line which decorated the radiator grille from the bottom and on each side. The front and rear optics were provided with LEDs. The display with trip computer data appeared on the dashboard. Sportive leather seats with electric adjustment were available in extended trim level. Top trim level featured leather and wooden interior trimming.

Meridian acoustic system was used in Land Rover Freelander cars. Voice control system, Say What You See, significantly facilitated the usage of the audio-system, air-conditioner and satellite navigation system. Moreover, the car was equipped with keyless entry system and pre-start engine heater with ability to control its operation timing.

Basically, all the cars were equipped with numerous safety systems. Such systems as stability control system (DSC), emergency braking assist (EBA), brake force distribution, hill descent control (HDC), cornering brake control (CBC), are notable amongst them.

The rain sensor, automatic climate control, heating of the windscreen were offered optionally. Also the car could be equipped with the parking sensors and cruise-control.
