The crossover Dodge Journey has been manufactured since 2008 till present. The cars roll off the assembly line at the plant in Toluca de Lerdo, Mexico. In Japan, the car is marketed under the name JC and JCUV in China. In 2009, the model was awarded the Top Safety Pick 2010 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the USA. The Dodge Journey vehicles with black body-colour are used by the US Federal Services, in particular, Secret Service.
The history of the Dodge Journey vehicles
So far, one generation, the JC49, and one facelifted version of the model have been introduced. The debut took place at the International Auto Show in Frankfurt am Main in 2007. The length of the crossover was 4888 mm long, the width was 1878 mm and the height was 1691 mm. The cars had front-wheel drive and were equipped with a 140 hp diesel engine or 170 hp GEMA petrol power unit. Moreover, in the range of the available engines, there were 185 hp V6 and 235 hp V6. Four-wheel drive versions of the car were available in North America.
The manufacturer introduced classic five-seater Journey crossovers and a version with seven seats. The passenger compartment of all cars could be easily transformed. For example, the rear seats could be completely folded allowing to increase the capacity of the luggage compartment from 483 up to 1562 l. There were hidden compartments in the lower part of the front seats which could be filled with ice and use to chill beverages.
In 2010, the car was officially withdrawn from the European market. The facelifted vehicles were manufactured for other countries. In Europe, the model was substituted with a similar car, Fiat Freemont.
Features of the Dodge Journey JC49
The exterior of the car is an idea of Chrysler engineer Ryan Nagode. Large rectangular headlights with halogen bulbs, steel rims, streamlined bumpers and door handles of body-colour are characteristic of this model.
The height of the driver’s seat and and the steering wheel tilt were adjustable. The car was equipped with hydraulic power steering. In the passenger compartment of the Dodge Journey, there was air conditioning; external mirrors and the rear window could be heated. The entertainment during the ride was ensured by a sound system that supported CD, DVD, MP3 with six speakers.
As the crossover was marketed as a family car, special attention had been paid to the safety. As standard, the car was equipped with curtain airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic stability programme, anti-slip regulation as well as tyre pressure monitoring system and emergency braking assist. A rear-view camera was available as an option.
