DODGE CHARGER reviews and experiences
The Dodge Charger vehicles have been manufactured since 1966 and until the present time. At first, the assembly was performed only in the USA and since 2006, they have been made in Canada as well. The first generations of the model belong to the muscle car category. They are considered to be one of the most popular used cars in the USA. The twin car model is Chrysler Cordoba.
The history of the Dodge Charger vehicles
Overall, there have been introduced seven generations and three updated versions of the model. The debut of the first generation took place in 1966. The Charger was made with a two-door fastback body style and was equipped with a 5.2 l V8 engine. The car was characterised by an unusual interior design, in particular, the instrument panel had a fluorescent lighting.
The production of the second generation started in 1968. The car body became more streamlined and got a spoiler at the rear. The manufacturer refused to use unusual lighting for the instrument panel. The higher trim levels included interior upholstery with wooden and leather elements.
The third generation of the cars which were produced since 1971 was presented by a hardtop coupe. As for the exterior, the model got a stylish radiator grille divided in two. In 1972, the generation introduced a car with hidden headlights. The fourth generation of the cars was produced between 1975 and 1978. At that time, the version with two exhaust pipes and a 225 hp engine appeared.
In 1983, the production of the cars was resumed. The company produced the fifth generation, the three-door front-wheel drive Charger fastbacks. Their exterior differed greatly from the one of their predecessors. In particular, these cars got a smaller radiator grille, black mouldings around the body, compact rectangular headlights which were placed in the holes. There was a version with a sports adjustable suspension. The production of the cars was discontinued in 1987.
The sixth generation of the vehicles, the LX started to be manufactured nineteen years later, in 2006. The car was available with the saloon body style. The standard equipment of the model included electronic stability programme, anti-lock braking system, traction control system. There were an air conditioning system and sound system which supported CD for the comfort of the driver and passengers.
The production of the LD generation started in 2011. They started to equip the cars with more efficient and, at the same time, more environmentally friendly engines. There was Hemi-V8 with the output of 477 hp among them. The range of the models included cars for the police of the USA.
Features of the Dodge Charger LD vehicles facelift
The facelift of the LD generation was introduced at the New York International Auto Show in 2014. The Dodge Charger saloon looks stylish and sporty. Its radiator grille became wider, headlights – more expressive with a stripes of LED daytime running headlights in front. The smaller bumper grille is fitted with a camera. The rear end has a minimalist look: the spoiler was made much smaller, fenders don’t have light reflectors anymore.
The car features the Uconnect multimedia system with navigation and a touchscreen. The base trim of the cars included electric power steering, adaptive cruise control and high beam control system are offered additionally. Bi-xenon headlights and lane departure warning system are available as optional extras.
