Types of car body filler

Special fine compositions are used for plastic parts treating. Shears and scratches on bumpers, moldings, spoilers, side mirror housings and other elements are removed with their help. Such materials are characterized by elasticity and don’t require finish coats.

Also liquid agents are available on sale. They are applied with the help of the spray gun and after drying they should be wiped with fine sandpaper. Such products are convenient for treating a large surface without significant damages.

Composition

The car body fillers are produced on a base of acrylic and polyester resins, and nitrocellulose mixtures. Moreover, composition can contain talcum and solvent, for example, styrene. Glass fiber, carbon fiber, aluminium powder are also added, as well as special fillers for specific weight lowering and product volume increasing, etc.

Tips on car body filler use

Before using the material you need to read the instruction and make sure that it is compatible with the surface type. Agents are applied to sanded, cleaned and de-oiled elements. For preliminary treating sandpaper of coarse grit, for example, P80 – P120, is used.

When applying the pastelike agent, you should hold a putty knife at the angle of 30–60°. The recommended temperature for works is 20–25 °C. Before applying every next layer you should sand and de-oil the surface again.
